2011 University of Toronto Inventors of the Year Awards
The Innovations and Partnerships Office in the Vice-President of Research portfolio is pleased to announce a new award program – Inventor of the Year Award in three areas:
- Information and Computer Technology, Social Sciences and Humanities
- Biomedical and Life Sciences
- Engineering and Physical Sciences
These awards recognize University of Toronto inventors or teams of inventors who have made a significant contribution to the University of Toronto’s innovation agenda since Jan 1, 2005 as a result of disclosure to the Innovations and Partnership Office or to the former “The Innovations Group”. In each area there will be gold, silver and bronze awards. These include innovations in all areas of knowledge application, for example software, copyright, trademarks, patents and best practices.
Nominee(s) Eligibility:
- Nominee(s) must all be trainees and/or faculty members at the University of Toronto
- Nominee(s) must have contributed to a substantial invention while working at the University of Toronto in the past five years.
- Nominations may be made by a trainee, faculty or staff member of the University of Toronto
- The invention must be have been disclosed by the nominee(s) to the University of Toronto in the past five years.
Award Criteria:
Inventiveness:
- Creativity
- Degree of advancement over state of current science/technology
Commercialization potential of invention:
- Market suitability/product potential
- Ability to bridge the gap between research and development
- Number of patents filed/licensed
Impact:
- Potential impact on society
- Commercial success
- Potential impact on economic development
Award Nomination Process:
A completed nomination form available online should be submitted to the Innovations and Partnerships Office by Dec 3 / 2010.
