Performing Services, Consulting and Sharing Stuff

  1. Consulting
University faculty are permitted to undertake outside paid consulting work, as long as that work does not interfere with the faculty member’s teaching and research obligations, and is managed solely by the faculty member. In some instances, approval from the University is required. For more information, click here.
  2. Service Agreements
Service agreements are signed when the University provides technical services or the use of facilities (i.e. equipment and laboratories) for research purposes. These agreements are administered at the divisional level. Unsure if your agreement is a service agreement? IPO can help!
  3. Sharing Information, Equipment & Materials
Often time research at the University of Toronto involves the exchange of knowledge and resources. All work performed at the University must be carried out in accordance to agreements relating to material transfer, confidentiality, equipment loan, software, data exchange, and visiting scientists. Researchers are required to understand and abide by these agreements.
