Implantable Closed-loop Insulin Delivery Device

Project Number

1500

Description

An implantable closed-loop insulin delivery device has been developed that mimics the blood glucose homeostasis function of the pancreas. The device is comprises a small insulin reservoir, for implantation under the skin, which incorporates a novel glucose-sensitive polymer membrane technology. The membrane alters its permeability to insulin based on exposure to glucose. This membrane allows for rapid and tightly controlled regulation of insulin release in response to fluctuations in blood glucose levels.
