Fostering Partnerships Program
As a research intensive university, with faculty researchers dedicated to addressing the issues most relevant to society, part of our mandate is to share our expertise with external partners who can help translate the results of research to the industries, communities and policy-makers who can make best use of that knowledge.
In keeping with our ongoing efforts to provide opportunities and support for the continued progress and success of the research programmes of our faculty members, the Office of the VP Research has initiated a new program to bring potential research partners onto campus to explore common areas of interest. The Fostering Partnerships Program is designed to connect U of T’s researchers with potential external collaborators from industry, government, other academic institutions or the non-profit sector.
Our individual researchers have a long history of successful initiation and maintenance of collaborations with their academic colleagues or specific organizations. The Fostering Partnerships Program is not meant to replace traditional collaborations between individual researchers and their colleagues at other institutions or in the private sector. Rather, it is meant to provide a mechanism for coordinating collaborations at an institutional level and to give our faculty access to organizations or groups that they may not otherwise be able to connect with to explore the potential for collaboration. These meetings are carefully designed to ensure a good match between the research interests of the partner and University attendees, and give both groups an opportunity to explore ideas and opportunities for collaboration.
By providing a mechanism for building the foundation of institutional research relationships, the Fostering Partnerships Program provides a unique opportunity for our faculty members to pursue research and innovation with partners in other sectors and allow the transfer of the knowledge generated.
